ICCBA Publishes Responses to Judicial Candidate Questionnaire Ahead of the 2026 ICC Judicial Elections

The International Criminal Court Bar Association (ICCBA) has published the responses received to its questionnaire sent to all short-listed candidates for election as judges of the International Criminal Court.

As the independent representative body of counsel practising before the Court, the ICCBA invited each short-listed candidate to complete a written questionnaire in either English or French. The initiative forms part of the ICCBA's commitment to promoting transparency and contributing to an informed judicial election process ahead of the election of six judges at the Assembly of States Parties in December 2026.

The questionnaire covered a broad range of issues relevant to judicial office at the Court, including judicial experience, independence and impartiality, the rights of the defence, equality of arms, legal aid, victims' participation, judicial ethics, workplace culture, and emerging challenges affecting international criminal justice.

The responses are intended to provide States Parties and the wider international criminal justice community with additional information regarding the candidates' qualifications, professional experience and perspectives on matters relevant to the work of the Court.
