British Embassy Holds an Event on Victims Representation at the ICC

On 6 February 2018, Mr. Jens Dieckmann, ICCBA Vice President for Victims, gave a presentation at an event organized by the British Embassy on victims’ representation at the ICC. The event was attended by over 100 participants from the diplomatic community and NGO’s in The Hague. The British Ambassador, Mr. Peter Wilson and the ICC President, Judge Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi gave introductory remarks. The first panel discussed the ‘ICC Proceedings and the Interests of Victims’ and included representatives from REDRESS and Human Rights Watch. ICCBA Delegation Meets with ICC President

On 5 February 2018, a delegation from the ICCBA visited Judge Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi, ICC President. The representatives from the ICCBA were: Karim Khan QC, President, Jens Dieckmann, Vice President for Victims, Chief Charles Taku, Vice President for Defence and Dominic Kennedy, Executive Director. A number of issues were discussed including victims' representation before the ICC and potentially organising a roundtable discussion later in 2018 and improving the office space for victims' representatives, who currently share an open plan office. ICCBA Sends Questionnaire to Candidates for Position of ICC Registrar

On 2 February 2018, the ICCBA sent all 14 candidates for the position of ICC Registrar a questionnaire and requested each candidate to submit their answers. The ICCBA has also offered each candidate the opportunity to appear before an ICCBA panel in mid-February for an interview. The panel will be composed of Chief Charles Taku, Vice President, Caroline Buisman, Executive Council Member and Dominic Kennedy, Executive Director. The ICCBA will present a Report to the judges of the ICC who are responsible for selecting the new Registrar in March 2018.
