ICCBA participates in workshop for judicial officers of the Supreme Court of Indonesia

On 17 October 2017, ICCBA President Karim Khan QC, and ICCBA Focal Point for Asia and Executive Council and Victims Committee member, Dato’ Shyamala Alagendra, participated in a workshop for judicial officers of the Supreme Court of Indonesia. The workshop took place at the ICC Permanent Premises, and was organised by Diane Turner QC, the Presiding member of the Disciplinary Board for counsel, with the assistance of Samira Hamzic of the Secretariat of Disciplinary Organs for counsel. The ICCBA Secretary and Executive Council member, Xavier-Jean Keita, and Michael Herz, member of the ICCBA Counsel Support Staff Committee and Secretariat, also joined the ICCBA’s presentation to and discussion

ICCBA co-hosts discussion on the ICC at The Hague Municipality NGO reception

On 5 October 2017, ICCBA Secretary Xavier-Jean Keïta, along with Francesca Anzovino (Chair, Counsel Support Staff Committee) and Anand Shah (member of ICCBA Secretariat and Legal Advisory and Amicus committees), represented the ICCBA at The Hague Municipality’s annual NGO network reception. The reception was hosted by UNICEF at its offices in The Hague, and attended by local and international NGOs with a presence in the city. Signing of Affiliation Agreement between the ICCBA and the African Bar Association

On 2 October 2017, the ICCBA and the African Bar Association (AFBA) signed an Affiliation Agreement at a ceremony held at the ICC Permanent Premises in The Hague, Netherlands. A copy of the agreement is available here. The AFBA was represented by its President, Mr. Hannibal Uwaifo, and its Vice President for Budget and Finance, Mr. Ibrahim Mark. The ICCBA was represented by its President, Karim Khan QC, as well as other members of the ICCBA Executive Council, including ICCBA Vice President for the Defence and AFBA member, Chief Charles Taku, and ICCBA Secretary Xavier-Jean Keita. ICCBA signs GQUAL Action Plan for gender parity in international representation

On 5 October 2017, President Karim Khan QC signed the GQUAL Action Plan (available here) on behalf of the ICCBA at a signing ceremony held during the plenary session of the GQUAL conference in The Hague, Netherlands. The Action Plan was also signed by her H.E. Ana Helena Chacón Echeverría, the Second Vice-President of Costa Rica, H.E. Marta Maurás, Ambassador / Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations, Mr. John Hocking, Registrar of the ICTY, and other eminent persons (pictures of the event available here). The GQUAL campaign seeks to raise awareness about and achieve concrete actions to address the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions in international bodies.
